Their first long player transmits a sense of possibility and hope, maybe emphasised after the tough and confusing times of the last few years. It also embodies a sense of reflection. What we've been and what we can be.

There's also a sense of pure joy in St Cyrus' music, throughout all the words, melodies, harmonies and the way in which it is presented. The cover artwork is a photograph taken by Jamie Allen about 11 years ago, on film, down in Cardiff Bay. What can be more pure than the smile of a child? Untarnished by responsibilities and unweathered by experience, a future of endless chances. Malleable to change. In times when we as adults have struggled to adapt, maybe kids led the way. Play the cards you're dealt, shrug it off and seek out the fun. It's gonna be OK.

The kid is obviously older now and maybe it hasn't always been smooth sailing for him, but he's growing and learning, he's strong and resilient. He's reliable and loving. The image shows naivety and experience. A past, a present and a future.

Terror Cult's Eight Eight Sixty Nine out now

image description

Terror Cult today release their new single Eight Eight Sixty Nine. This song is an amalgamation of the band's defining qualities: an alt rock banger complete with a dark lyrical subject matter, punk-jazz influences and one of the most infectious vocal melodies you'll hear in a while.

Eight Eight Sixty Nine will be the band's follow up from their debut single and EP, 2021's "Snubnose Jesus" and "Self Titled" (respectively). It will also be their first release in their new line-up; Tate Maloney (vocals, bass), Daniel Hepworth (guitar) and Alex Wardle (drums). Formed in early 2020, Terror Cult are delivering their unique blend of alternative/punk rock and pop songwriting sensibility through explosive and chaotic live shows, as well as releases like this and much, much more to come.

New St Cyrus single Sink or Swim out now

image description The new single from St Cyrus, Sink or Swim is out now across digital platforms. It is the third single to be taken from the forthcoming debut album which is out at the end of May.

The song is about songwriter Chris Charlton's Granda Dod Anderson who left us back in Feb 2020. An ex-salmon fisherman of the North Sea, St Cyrus, Angus, he fished from the nets out to sea and only fell in once in 23 years, the week before he retired. He lost his bonnet and couldn't swim.

It is a tribute to a great man and is about making the most of the simple things in life. Enjoy the sun on your face when you can, be nice to folk, fill your boots, 'mak a lang airm' he used to say when the biscuit tin came out. There's also more than a nod to a childhood in Scotland and some of the places that hold a special place for Chris, Lunan Bay for example, great beach and big sand dunes. Sink or Swim.

Here he is in 1950 on Montrose Beach on his Ferguson Tractor post hole digger, planting a fly net. He grew his own award winning tatties, loved his snooker, his OVD and made the best pancakes. He chose his own spot at St Cyrus graveyard, up against the wall where there was nae draft. We miss him.
