New St Cyrus single Sink or Swim out now
The new single from St Cyrus, Sink or Swim is out now across digital platforms. It is the third single to be taken from the forthcoming debut album which is out at the end of May.
The song is about songwriter Chris Charlton's Granda Dod Anderson who left us back in Feb 2020. An ex-salmon fisherman of the North Sea, St Cyrus, Angus, he fished from the nets out to sea and only fell in once in 23 years, the week before he retired. He lost his bonnet and couldn't swim.
It is a tribute to a great man and is about making the most of the simple things in life. Enjoy the sun on your face when you can, be nice to folk, fill your boots, 'mak a lang airm' he used to say when the biscuit tin came out. There's also more than a nod to a childhood in Scotland and some of the places that hold a special place for Chris, Lunan Bay for example, great beach and big sand dunes. Sink or Swim.
Here he is in 1950 on Montrose Beach on his Ferguson Tractor post hole digger, planting a fly net. He grew his own award winning tatties, loved his snooker, his OVD and made the best pancakes. He chose his own spot at St Cyrus graveyard, up against the wall where there was nae draft. We miss him.
