24 year old, Siddy Bennett is a complete anomaly. She and her sister Kit, along with James Ashbury and Kendal Sant are Wildflowers. Theirs is a sound that is rooted in classic British folk pop but nods and chimes to American West Coast rhythms. The vocal harmonies, classic song writing and arrangements might make them a 21st century Fleetwood Mac.
The Bennett sisters grew up in an environment that sounds like it should have been the 60s’ California Dream; There are four sisters in total, raised on the move, single-handed, by a strident, politically charged mother who gifted her children with literature, art, music and charisma (but no TV). Siddy and Kit’s dad was a jazz musician but he was always away on tour and so it was their mum who most influenced the girls.
Yet despite all this Aquarian ideology, Siddy radiates 21st century energy. Her songwriting is wide-eyed and contemporary. Debut single 'Another Million Miles' skips along apace, an unguarded anthem to following your dreams “Grew up in an English town, never knew what else was around (I’ve always wanted to drive to New Orleans, I’ve always had California Dreams)”
Since their formation in 2012, Siddy and the band have followed their dreams and it has taken them a million miles from where they began. Their journey started in Bristol, where Siddy and James met, all the way to Austin, Texas where at SXSW they wowed Detroit label Original 1265 Records and bagged themselves a record deal. They’ve supported Robert Plant and Tom Odell on the way. They clocked up further miles with numerous UK tours including a 7 date Road to Glastonbury tour that involved their fans pledging just enough funds for them to play 7 towns en route from Scotland culminating at the Somerset festival earlier this year. The band are now set to embark upon their next UK tour supporting Keston Cobblers Club, before a series of their own headline shows.
