Forming in Manchester in the early 2000s, The Longcut quickly built a reputation as a fearsome live act, and released two albums (A Call and Response, Open Hearts) to critical acclaim in 2006 and 2009. Returning from a nine year hiatus, Deathmask is the sound of a band rejuvenated, a visceral blast of psychedelic fury that puts to rest any fears that the band has mellowed in their time away. Over a galloping arpeggiator, Deathmask moves between frantic instrumentals, stomping beats and haunting vocals, climaxing in a towering frenzy of distorted guitar and crashing drums. With the lyrics taking influence from both the breakdown and the power of the natural world, the song was the first that was written for the album and is already a live favourite among their loyal fan base. The Longcut will release their third album Arrows in April 2018.
