Neil is currently due to release a live album this summer recorded last year at the Glad Cafe in Glasgow's south side. The album features several new songs, one old previously unrecorded song, some old favourites and provides a unique opportunity to hear Neil's talented new band Jenny Sutherland on fiddle and John Mcghee on guitar in an intimate setting, up close warts n'all!
Neil's writing is mainly but not solely inspired by his native Scotland. It's roots, people, tradition and natural environment provide inspiration for creating music in his own relaxed, gentle style. He enjoys setting his music to traditional poems sung in Old Scots and in particular the poetry of Gerry Cambridge.
Neil began to write and perform from the mid 90’s creating the Judy Circus; a songwriting collective which worked with DF Concerts to give emerging talent a platform to perform at higher profile venues. For the next 10 years he toured regularly at folk clubs and festivals appearing at the likes of Edinburgh Fringe, Celtic Connections, Kings Tuts and Tin the Park where his performances were described as eclectic, relaxed and intimate.
