House concerts - these are popular in the US - a concert, in your house, home or space.
The songs do have a story and sometimes at gigs I/we are under time constraints to fully explain them. House concerts allow the songs to breathe and lets us & you really engage with the material, get absorbed in the stories and anecdotes with more interaction too!
Our Briar & Bramble performances include storytelling, where we weave songs and storytelling together, with Cumbrian influences being the main stay of our material. Other influences are in the form of folklore far and wide, from the British Isles and Scandinavia.
So, if your interested in an exclusive evening with us, here's the deal…
We'd need a space to perform, in room large enough to accommodate me/us and our instruments, but also an audience. The audience would need areas to sit and there'd need to be enough room for them to move around easily & safely.
House concerts should be strictly invitation only and wouldn’t be public. It's about you and your friends and family getting your own personal concert.
We can discuss specific booking fees. It’s likely to be a flat booking fee based on the distance of the house and the nature of the evening. (You could cover the costs by asking your guests to pass a hat around - for your hospitality?)
Gear wise it’s simple. Either no PA at all which is best if it’s intimate, or we can bring something to help the sound if it’s a big space... but nothing too big of course!
Show format can be flexible - happy to come up with a format that works for you. Although it would be a concert style rather than us just playing in the background. Set wise would probably be two halves of 40 minutes each with a break so people to get drinks, socialise and have a bite to eat. The second set maybe longer depending on how the evening goes.
