Founded and curated by downtempo staple Emancipator, Loci Records is a point of convergence - the crossroads of melodic downtempo, instrumental hip hop, and electronica. Over the last 7 years, Loci has quietly become a platform for intelligent, carefully crafted, electronic music, shining a light on young artists, and helping those acts bring their visions to fruition.
Since his debut release, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, in 2006, Emancipator has emerged as a giant in downtempo electronic, and the touring market globally. Seen in the past touring with support artists like Blockhead, Wax Tailor, Little People, Shigeto, and the now massive success that is Odesza, Emancipator quickly began to use his reach to bring attention to new music that inspired him. Creating the umbrella brand that is now Loci Records, he was able to release music in combination with bringing artists on tour to introduce them to his audience. Artists like Tor, Frameworks, Stev, and Lapa, became some of the first artists to develop within Loci, and have been seen to grasp a strong presence in the US touring market themselves.
Fast forward to 2019, Loci Records has over 30 releases, and has brought together a strong roster of artists also including Marley Carroll, Thoma, Nym, and Edamame. The careful approach to A&R is not only a dimension of what the brand is about, but also has been integral to its success, which is pushing the label forward. Fall 2019 will see the release of Loci’s second compilation, Season Two, which will introduce a number of new artists into the Loci world, as well as mark the beginning of a more consistent release schedule, and a new chapter for the label, which will be marked with bigger releases, a developing global reach, and hidden gems to be shared very soon.
