Formed in the suburbs of Birmingham, England in 2014, The Hungry Ghosts have made a name for themselves through their DIY ethos, intense live performances and blending of genres from Garage Rock to Americana to Surf.
The Hungry Ghosts sprouted as the brain child of cousins, Joe Joseph (Vocal, Guitar and Keys) and Billy Ollis (Guitar and Vocals), following their purchase of a vintage reel to reel tape recorder. As time passed, the two ghosts manipulated their sound with homage to their influence's including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Gun Club, The Kills (and many more), and embarked upon their first range of live performances throughout the UK. In the years that followed, the band received the genre title of 'Slaughterhouse Blues', which was a music publication's attempt to identify the unique style of The Hungry Ghosts.
In 2017, the band became a 5-piece, with the introduction of Jay Dyer (Guitar and Vocals), Richard Burman (Drums) and Emily Doyle (Bass Guitar). This allowed The Hungry Ghosts to move towards being a band renowned for their live prowess, with each member adding an extra dynamic to the music.
The Hungry Ghosts have shared a stage with artists including: Fat White Family, IDLES, Yak, Peace, Alabama 3, Sunflower Bean, Shonen Knife and The Garden. The band have also played some of the best stages around including Green Man Festival and SXSW and have also received regular airplay on radio stations such as BBC 6 music and Radio X.
