Chris Whitten made a name for himself providing drums for the classic 80's hits 'What I Am' by Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians and 'The Whole Of The Moon' by the Waterboys. He went on to appear on Paul McCartney's critically acclaimed 'Flowers In The Dirt' album and the 1989/90 record-breaking world tour. Two years later Chris embarked on the mammoth, 18 month long ‘On Every Street’ world tour with Dire Straits.
In the 1990's Chris started collaborating with record producer Peter Henderson (Supertramp, Rush and McCartney) on several drum sample libraries, notably 'Superior Custom & Vintage’ for Toontrack in Sweden, then 'EZX Vintage Rock' and 'EZX The Classic' also for Toontrack. 'Custom & Vintage' in particular proved to be extremely popular with both users and technology commentators.
Chris' extensive studio credits include Paul McCartney, a trio of albums with Swing Out Sister, a James Bond soundtrack (The Living Daylights) with The Pretenders, sessions with ABC, Holly Johnson, Tom Jones and Johnny Cash, plus more recently, two acclaimed albums by soulful newcomers ‘The Beauty Room'.
Peter Henderson started his career at Air Studios where he trained exclusively with Beatles' recording engineer Geoff Emerick (Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road etc.) Peter also worked on numerous sessions as an in-house engineer with the legendary George Martin.
As a freelance producer/engineer he has worked in top studios all over the world and co-produced Supertramp’s 25 million selling 'Breakfast In America', for which he won a Grammy (Best Engineered Album). Peter has also worked with Paul McCartney, Rush, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Kevin Ayers, Ringo Starr and The Tubes.
Peter recently headed the audio restoration team for ‘American Epic’, a four part BBC documentary series and 12 CD / vinyl collection for SONY / Third Man about blues and folk music from the 1920's.
In 2017 Whitten and Henderson recorded an extensive collection of acoustic drums for Roland's current flagship drum sample module; TM-6 Pro (released Spring 2018). The sample recording sessions took place in renowned drum rooms at Real World and Rockfield Studios in the UK. In late 2019 they have built on that experience by creating 'Chris Whitten Drums', a sample expansion for the TM-6 Pro.
