Sunday, September 17th
Songwriting Workshop with Devon Sproule and Marker Starling

Touring musicians Devon Sproule and Marker Starling bring a special song writing workshop to the Glad! Get your into your own ideas, feelings, and stories in this fun and interactive workshop. Recommended 14+ and suitable even for absolute beginners.
Devon Sproule is a Canadian/American musician living in rural Virginia. Their music celebrates human complication in the language of nature. Since 2007, Sproule’s recordings have been released by Tin Angel Records, based in the UK. She collaborates regularly with Toronto-based producer Sandro Perri. In addition to being a musician, Sproule is a high school drop-out, a birder, and a student of Deaf Culture and sign language.
Toronto troubadour Chris A. Cummings (Marker Starling, formerly Mantler) has been playing Melancholy Party Jams since 1999. With Tin Angel, Marker has released 6 albums since 2015. Cummings’ ninth record HIGH JANUARY, was recorded in the UK and produced by Sean O’Hagan (The High Llamas, Stereolab).

This workshop will be followed by an evening performance from Devon and Marker. Tickets available through the Glad Cafe.
Mending Session with Glad Rag's own Jennie Lof

Are your clothes in need of a little TLC? Perhaps you have a beloved shirt that's wearing a bit thin at the elbows, or a pair of jeans that fit just right, but are letting in a bit too much breeze on the knees? If so, this workshop is what you’ve been waiting for! In this workshop, you'll be led through how to mend, upcycle and embellish garments using Sashiko & Patching techniques.
You are more than welcome to bring something of your own to mend or upcycle! However, if you don't have something in particular, don't worry, there will be lots of fabrics available to play around with.
Tickets are ‘Pay what you can’ and 100% will go towards the Glad Foundations program of free and affordable music workshops for our local community.

Intro to Sampling for Electronic Music

Join electronic music mastermind Gav Thomson in an exploration of recording, sampling, and manipulating found sounds! This is an interactive workshop with something to offer all skill levels, and is suitable even for absolute beginners. We'll provide the equipment necessary to play around and make something together in the workshop, as well as giving you hot tips on finding accessible resources to continue experimenting and creating on your own!
Gav Thomson has been playing in bands, recording, and doing live sound in Glasgow for over ten years. He's a great teacher and we're so happy to bring you this workshop.

Mending Workshop with Textile Artist Faith Eliott

Join us on for the second Glad Day for a crafty mending session with Faith Eliott (they/them), a textile artist and maker based in Glasgow's Southside.
In this workshop, you'll be led through how to mend, upcycle and embellish garments using Sashiko & Patching techniques. In addition, you'll learn some basic embroidery stitches, with the option of trying some more complex ones if you feel confident to do so. You are more than welcome to bring something of your own to mend or upcycle! However, if you don't have something in particular, don't worry, there will be lots of fabrics available to play around with. Guitar Workshop for ages 11 - 16

Join instructor James Barnett in learning new music skills, connecting with each other in a friendly and supportive setting. Participants can work with electric, acoustic, or bass guitar, and are welcome to borrow an instrument from us or to bring their own. The sessions are geared towards less experienced musicians, but are open to all ability levels.

Make Your Own Recycled Jewelry

Join us for a workshop with {re}made by Tee! Tee uses old, broken jewelry to make new, fun, and beautiful pieces. All tools and broken jewelry provided, although you're welcome to bring your own! Tea and light snacks will be provided. Event is all ages, but is recommended for ages 12+. Hope to see you there!
