Jazz at the Glad Festival: MONOMYTH 1K
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
MONOMYTH 1K is inspired by Joseph Campbell’s book, ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces’. Alistair's love of film, novels and narrative albums are behind his desire to bring a storyline into improvised music. The album’s seven tracks are presented in three acts, typical of narrative arcs. The protagonist’s emotions are conveyed through Alistair’s trumpet playing, while the band represent events in the story. Listeners are free to interpret whether the album ends positively or negatively.
The music is brought to life by some of the most exciting musicians on the UK jazz scene: Flo Moore(Jordan Rakei), Eddie Lee(Mansur Brown), Tom Smith and Oren Mcloughlin.
“A remarkable talent as a composer who links history with a contemporary conception. Martin’s tone is expressive, rich and full of melodic invention. Which, given his youthful age speaks to an astonishing maturity as a musician”- Jazzthing
