Car or Public Transport: The Ongoing Debate
Although there are plenty of profitable and effective ways to make money from home, most of us have jobs far from our homes that we need to go to. And there are two ways to do this: public transportation and private transportation.
Although car trading is flourishing and it’s somehow easy to sell a car in UAE, many are choosing public transportation. Trains, buses, taxis, cars, motorbikes, and bicycles, which of these modes of transport is the best way to get around?
Public Transportation
Public transportation is everywhere and budget-friendly to the point that it would be a waste if we didn't use them at all, but is it better than private transportation? Let’s find out.
Public Transportation Pros
In general, using public transportation is much cheaper than buying a used car or renting one, you don't have to pay for petrol, parking, maintenance, cleaning or any of these things. Just pay the public transport fare, and you'll arrive at your destination!
Public transportation has much lower effects on the environment than private vehicles because more people can ride the same bus, train, or whatever, and so the carbon emissions are significantly reduced.
Electric-powered transmissions are more environmentally friendly than gas-intensive.
Another benefit of taking public transport is that you don't have to think about paying taxes, and other financial obligations, or paying attention to the road, there is someone else driving, and you can read, watch Netflix, or even take a nap!
Not to mention that driving a car for a long period will cause wear and tear and drives you to ask “how much will I lose if I value my car now for resale”.
Public Transportation Cons
You can go to places with public transportation, but only to the areas where public transportation allows you to go; bus lines don’t go everywhere.
So you will need to walk to get to where you want, and this’s a downside, especially in the burning heat of Dubai.
It is also worth noting that public transportation is time-sensitive as you have to catch them when they are available. Also, many services slow down or shut down completely when it gets late, meaning you can go to most places, but not whenever you want.
Not having to be in control of anything related to travel also means that you are not in control if anything bad happens. Although public transportation accidents are rare, when they occur, you don’t have another choice for getting where you want to go.
Private Transportation
Cars, motorcycles, bicycles, vans, and more. Are they better than public transportation?
Private Transportation Pros
Owning a car means saving time waiting for the next bus or train to arrive at the station. It also means choosing the shortest possible route to reach your destination, unlike public transportation which takes longer routes to cover more areas and serve more people.
You can also go out anytime at night or early in the morning. You also don't need to wait for other people to get off the bus or train when it stops. It’s just you with your car and your destination.
That's not all, you don't just have to wait for anyone; you can go anywhere you want without restrictions. Park your car right outside your friend's house, and anywhere else you like.
Having your car also means that you can do whatever you want. If you put stickers on your bus seat, it's vandalism. On the other hand, if you put stickers on your car seat, you’re personalizing it and doing a creative expression.
You can also eat in your car. Unfortunately, you can't do that on any public transport.
*Private Transportation Cons * As great as owning a car is, it also costs a lot of money.
Driving a private car is not environmentally friendly; you burn fossil fuels at a higher rate per capita compared to using public transportation. Assuming you don't drive an electric car, of course.
Being in complete control of your vehicle also means you need to control it. You have to navigate, find parking, pay for parking, get stuck in traffic jams with your feet on the pedals, deal with other drivers, and all the annoying things that come with them.
So this is it.
Public transportation may be the way to go if you live in a densely populated area with plenty of services, but private transportation is better if you can afford the costs, and maintain your car value.
