Jaydan - Soundboy Killer EP
KILLAZ109
Label-regular Jaydan returns to the Serial Killaz imprint with four hefty jump up productions. This year, his production output has been nothing short of prolific; the streak continues as he maintains creative momentum after almost two decades in the drum and bass scene.
Jaydan opens the EP with Soundboy Killer. Mysterious pads, metronomic hats, and ragga vocal samples pave the way for a weighty two-step drum pattern and dense basses as the introductory tension releases on the drop. Visceral subs, dynamic wobbles, and orchestral reeses keep the tune rolling and speakers rattling.
Tekky follows up with eerie strings, dark vocals, and dystopian soundscapes. Soon after, a snappy and resonant snare seamlessly cuts through a pumping syncopated bassline, tying together a vicious cut of rolling jump up. Melodic bass stabs and intermittent reeses baring the hallmarks of a Jaydan production inject the tune with even more energy. Ready for a reload.
Next up is the atmospheric and ethereal When I Look At You. An uplifting melody carried by a filtered reese is balanced with a trance-like arpeggiated pluck and soulful vocal sample, creating a heavyweight track which still floats through the air.
Funktion rounds off the EP with a futuristic medley of digital vocals, spacey pads, and a chiming melody carried by synthesised bells. By taking equal inspiration from mid-90’s Good Looking releases and contemporary jump up by way of glistening atmospheres, elongated reeses, and punchy drums, Jaydan has crafted a hypnotic piece of drum and bass bound to elevate the set of any DJ who draws for this tune.
