Toby Ross - Watch Yuh Talk
Toby Ross is one of the fastest rising stars in the world of d&b, he exploded onto the scene in a relatively short space of time thanks to his mature, and expertly crafted, sound that combines the tight, sharp production of drum & bass with the dirty, guttural basslines of 90's jungle and there is no better example of this than the five tracks that make up his 'Watch Yuh Talk' EP for our very own Serial Killaz Recordings.
The title track is exactly what we have come to expect from this talented young producer; dub echoes, slamming amen edits, and ragamuffin vocals lead into an all out, guns blazing, big bass skanker, which is swiftly followed by 'Guestlist' which uses skipping drum patterns and soundclash chatter to create a tension filled intro before launching into a bubbling sub-shaking rinse out session and the ominous atmosphere of 'Rattle', with it's brooding string arrangement and rasta chants, culminates with a swaggering bass riff that slaps harder than a pissed off pimp!
Next up is 'Lord Of The Mics' a swagged-out stepper that pays homage to Jammers infamous, and much loved, grime clashes with frantic horn stabs and an insanely wobbly bassline and whilst 'Spicy' might be the EP's final offering it is by no means it's least with it's catchy vocal hook, and gritty bass stabs rounding up proceeding neatly.
