Summer Update
As I write this, it's almost midnight, and I'm sat in sweltering twenty four degree heat, highly unlikely to sleep any time soon. With a fan blasting, a cold glass of water and all the lights out to keep the heat down, it's...still unbearably warm.
So I thought with sleep unlikely any time soon, it might be a good opportunity to give a little update.
We've been having fun playing again from Hull to Harrogate and everywhere between. It's still tricky for bands dodging Covid and although we've had to do a couple of shows with a slightly altered line up, it's been nice to get to some form of normality - whatever that means.
Firstly thanks to everyone who pre-ordered Northern Powerhouse on vinyl - they should be with us in August all being well. We'll keep you updated.
Similarly, thanks for everyone who has been to see us or has kept on listening, always appreciated and really means a lot.
Also, we were quite flattered to find that the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage recommended our song 'Pleasure Grounds' on his slot on Guy Garvey's Finest Hour radio show on BBC 6 Music. As Joe is a huge fan of Simon, who played a huge part in Joe's formative years as a poet/songwriter, and we're all big fans of Guy and Elbow too - I can still recall rushing out to buy The Seldom Seen Kid just after it won the Mercury Prize when I was at college - it was a real thrill. Big thanks for the kind words from people who listened to us or found our music via the show, it means a lot.
Finally, we're getting ready to go in the studio in August to record a new bunch of songs. They feel fun, promising, and as Joe often says, "Breezy" so with a bit of luck we'll be able to share more of these with you soon.
We're out and about with a few gigs over the next few weeks and months too, more of which you can find on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram.
Hope you're all good and maybe see you at a gig. In this heat I'm doing my utmost to keep the guitars (see below) in tune - bearing in mind one of them is a 12 string it is twice the work.
For your own sakes, take care!
Jonny
