About Rock Lives Here
About Rock Lives Here
Many industry gatekeepers will have you believe that rock is dead. Well Scott Smith sure doesn’t believe that. He also knows YOU are out there - yearning for the nostalgia associated with the days gone by, but also excited by all the awesome new rock that exists in the world, but frustrated that it struggles to be heard.
Scott Smith the founder of Rock Lives Here, first got his taste for rock ‘n’ roll as a 13-year-old, courtesy of John Farnham’s Age Of Reason tour in 1988. The roar of the fans, the energy of the band, amazing songs and the set closer, a cover of It’s A Long Way To The Top… That song and its harder edged rock sound certainly sparked something in his ears. He spent the summer of 1988 listening to his very first cassette, Open Up And Say Aah by Poison, whilst pouring through the pages of Metal Edge magazine. Perfect summer holiday homework, for high school in ’89 was all about sharing music & video clip mixtapes and trading posters with his fellow students of ROCK. 1989, what a year to truly discover music with classic albums from the likes of Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Warrant, Extreme, White Lion, Aerosmith, Danger Danger, Mr. Big and Alice Cooper…you get the big haired picture!
Fast forward to 2019 and it’s amazing to think that each of the bands & artists mentioned above are still active in some form. In some respects not much has changed, but then again, so much has changed for ROCK music fans.
The digital age has opened our ears up to so much incredible music and artists around the globe we otherwise wouldn’t have heard. But it sure can be hard work being a rock music fan in the 2020's keeping up with it all. New releases available on multiple platforms, music news coming at us from hundreds of sources, concert ticket pre-sales before a pre-sale of a pre-sale and just how and where do I buy a physical copy of that new Rival Sons album in Australia?
Now don’t get the wrong idea here, Scott is just as passionate about music today, as he was growing up in his early teens. And just as he now prefers a good red wine, over a pint of beer, so have his ears matured over the years beyond just the hard rock releases of 1989. Sure, the world we live in today is dominated by so much noise, distraction and options to consume, but cut through the noise and all Scott sees is an opportunity to make a difference.
*Rock Lives Here *is driven by a passion to smash the notion that rock is dead and to help support an industry that has given many of us so much enjoyment over the past 30 years.
- ROCK from the past, present and future.
- ROCK that is shunned by the mainstream.
- ROCK that industry gatekeepers tell us is dead.
*Rock Lives Here * is the community Scott is on a mission to build. In the 2020's technology allows us to do virtually anything, so together we can build the ultimate self sufficient ROCK community, driven by our collective passion for the greatest genre of music there is...!!
Rock will be dead if we let it, but we’re collectively not going to let that happen. Sure, our collective hair may be shorter, the vintage t-shirt a little tighter and our ears a little deafer, but if Alice Cooper and Paul McCartney can still rock well into their 70’s, then whoaaa, we’re only halfway there (Bon Jovi pun intended).
