Two iconic female Indian artists from North & South Indian Classical music join forces to create new pioneering work & present their cutting edge solo projects Indigo Soul & Carnatic Nomad as a specially commissioned double-bill Indo Jazz concert in Karamel's McQueens Theatre featuring guest artist and pianist, Alex Wilson.
Unnati is a British Indian singer-songwriter-composer, her father was Indian Classical vocalist, Nitai Dasgupta. Immersed in a musical childhood touring with her father, Unnati released her first album “Vishwa – The Universe of Music” with a 6 City India tour of Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore & Coorg. Unnati is a Glastonbury Unsigned Artistes Jazz World finalist and has performed at prestigious venues: The Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, Cadogan Hall, Mexico’s Cervantino Festival, Boubou’s Music Festival (Caribbean), Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (Mumbai) and Pizza Express Jazz Club. Unnati’s international music is a crossover of Indian Classical, Jazz & Spiritual reflecting Unnati’s British Indian heritage. DJ Ravin chose “Teri Yaad Aati Hain” to be on Buddha Bar’s Compilation album, “The Ultimate Experience” and Unnati’s voice featured in a sound installation at the V&A Museum.
"...the congregation listened in rapt silence to Dasgupta's mellifluous rendering of Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram. Her singing floated through the Abbey whose stained glass windows were lit up brightly on a sunny morning...” (The Telegraph, India)
Hailing from Bangalore, Jyotsna is Europe’s foremost Indian violinist. Her music illuminates Carnatic musical tradition in kaleidoscope colour. Jyotsna enjoys a demanding career as an eminent solo musician, her music is meditation on a theme of encounters; east meets west, ornamentation meets groove, India meets jazz. Her violin sings out vivid melodies and redolent ragas of her beloved Bangalore, twisted through with a strong jazz flavour.
"Jyotsna Srikanth is an extraordinary and versatile violinist… free-flowing, often mesmerising" (The Guardian)
"major instrumentalist of vision and imagination" (fRoots)
