Hank Tree
Entry Requirements: 18
In collaboration with Olive Grove Records, Glasgow based trio Hank Tree release their debut album, The Big North. Support comes from Viking Moses and Faith Eliott. Hank Tree is a Glasgow based project led by Fergus MacDonald (ex- State Broadcasters), also comprising Roy Shearer (Ultras, Inspector Tapehead) and Bart Owl (Eagleowl, Broken Chanter). Hank Tree released its first EP in 2018 via the Chilean label Uva Robot and have supported artists including King Creosote, Alasdair Roberts and Gwenifer Raymond. The band's sound is characterised by fast picked classical guitars, atmospheric ballads, distortion-heavy instrumentals and hushed vocals, often incorporating field recordings and featuring lyrics focusing on social history. The band's debut album, The Big North, is inspired by the dramatic rise and fall of prosperity of a remote part of the world, the desert region of El Norte Grande in Chile. Songs address themes like migration, human impacts on natural landscapes, manual labour, technological progress, industrial decline and the building of relationships and communities in an isolated and inhospitable place.
