It’s been a tumultuous few years for Brighton indie/pop darlings Orchards. Primed to bash down the doors of the indie mainstream with their debut album Lovecore back in March 2020, instead the world fell apart (and we all know why), forcing them to take a back seat. Undeterred, the trio locked themselves away and rallied with new music – the irresistible Trust Issues EP. And while their glittery bombastic power indie-pop showed no sign of retreating, that EP took on an edgier, darker lyrical tone.
With a loyal fanatical fan base built from years of hard work, critical praise from the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC 6 Music), Noisey, DIY, Line of Best Fit and more, spots on Spotify's New Music Friday, extensive tours booked across the UK and EU, and success at SXSW, 2000 Trees, ArcTanGent and Y Not? Festivals, their determination seemed to be paying off. But the band retreated further, seeming to disappear altogether sparking rumours of a break up.
Behind the scenes, Orchards had gone absolutely nowhere, regrouping with producer Jack Wilson (Fickle Friends) in the nearby sunny town of Shoreham to take them in a new direction, penning some of their most explorative, brutally honest and downright catchiest songs to date.
This summer the band will be bringing their energetic live show to stages at Portals Festival, Truck Festival and ArcTanGent; armed with their impressive back catalogue and fiery new songs to boot. Orchards are back, in fact they never left, and it’s been a real learning curve but a fun journey to get here. This time their mission is to share with the world what they’ve made over the years and do what they do best…shine.
