Flyying Colours EP

In possibly the most decadent recording session since The Rolling Stones at Nellcôte, Flyying Colours have pieced together an EP of gritty force and captivating melody that cuts through the fog of a dreamy, reverb-drenched sound-scape.

After a year of unhinged gigs, blowing up amps and writing in their sharehouse/clubhouse in Melbournes Inner North, Flyying Colours finally settled into a four-piece adding Gemma permanently on guitar and BVs and bunkered down to finesse the final aspects of their sound. Enlisting producer Woody Annison at Melbourne’s Red Door Studios to capture said sound was a stroke of genius, the whole gang creating an instant rapport (some may say too much) but somehow - ten days later - the Flyying Colours EP was born.

From the powerful crescendos of “Bugs” to the melodic garage-pop of “Feathers”, the Flyying Colours EP has clear hints of early 90’s shoe-gaze and grunge, which fans of Swervedriver, Ride and MBV will instantly connect with, but perhaps its their incessant uptempo beats and rollicking live show that sets them years apart from what generally comes to mind when you think of “shoe-gaze”

The first single “Wavygravy” found a national audience via Rage, Triple J and community radio with Beat Magazine saying:

“Wavygravy is a powerhouse display of shoegaze might from rising Melbourne outfit Flyying Colours. It sounds big and it sounds good, like it was recorded with a cliff-face of amps in an abandoned wind tunnel. It’s all taken to greater heights when the animalistic rhythm section cuts loose two-thirds of the way through. Far from worshipping at the foot of early-‘90s icons, this is shoegaze done right.”

The second single, the more abrasive “Like You Said” has been premiered on Tonedeaf and TheMusic.Com.Au

Flyying Colours EP is a great taste of what this enigmatic new band are capable of and what’s brewing in Melbourne’s shoe-gaze scene at the moment, but seeing their raw power live on stage is still a must for anyone that wants to see “shoe-gaze done right.”
