Sonica Talk: Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza in conversation
Marcela Armas + Gilberto Esparza + Nina Cameron
Free but ticketed
Entry Requirements: Limited capacity, advanced booking required.
Mexican artists, Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza discuss the inspiration, creation and development of their sonic installation, Sideral. This 82kg chunk of space debris named Boxhole, found in Australia in 1937, and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London provides the foundation of the installation. Cradled in spidery wooden sensor-limbs that ‘read’ the meteorite, Sideral generates an eerie, modulating music that also tells the story of its almost unimaginable journey through the void.
Presented in partnership with the Visual Artist Unit.
