Ryan Mosleh - Drift Away (Single Review)

Ryan Mosleh's new single Drift Away is a breezy and upbeat fusion of folk and pop that sticks the landing with great effect
When it comes to standing out from the crowd as a male singer-songwriter, the journey is quite a hard one. With limited resources during a live session and an abundance of wonderfully smooth and sincere voices out there, it's easy for great talent to get lost by the wayside. Ryan Mosleh's new single Drift Away is a breezy and upbeat fusion of folk and pop that I believe sticks the landing with great effect. From the moment the intro peers its head I could tell that its introspection about love and relationships wasn't going to moody and sparse crooning. Instead, Ryan gives us something packed to the brim with bright melodies, a mature and confident vocal delivery, and infectious raw energy.
Drift Away seems like an opportunity for Ryan to show everyone he can do a lot with very little. Although the production could do with a little bit more air to breathe in, it doesn't actually detract all that much from the final product. Furthermore, the quality of composition and delivery make up for the lack of headroom in the production.
We are presented with a simple story about the protagonist reassuring a lover that he is not the "one who tells you what to do and what to say" and that although people say that they are "not made for each other", fundamentally, none of that matters when he "drifts away" after "she kisses softly". While being a tad rudimental, I can't help but give in to its charm and its seduction of universal appeal while exploring the base experience of euphoric love. Moreover, the addition of electric guitar, drums, and bass fill the spectrum with great effect and make for a joyous listening experience.
In the future, I would like to see some deeper and more complex storytelling and/or something more impassioned, but as of now, Ryan Mosleh has stood out of the crowd for me and delivered a solid folk-pop tune that I'm sure will catch even the passive listener's attention.
