Blowdown's Artist of the Week #1: Noggy

Intimacy is Noggy’s game and he plays it well. Pulling you in not with explosive crash cymbals or soaring vocals but by easing you gently and then delicately permeating your soul. He makes you forget the other members of the audience and builds an honest connection with those who are willing to accept the listen. With an ambient electric guitar backing him with his acoustic, they offer a light and floaty palette to take you on a journey down the motorway at midnight and poke all your emotional buttons in just the right way. It’s not all just an intimate confession, they both let their hair down in the live setting with a cover of* ‘She’s electric’ *(Oasis) and had a bit of fun in the latter section of the set. It was a cathartic release as the atmosphere before this point was one you couldn’t hear a pin drop in and the audience was held in their gentle grasp, but then the place livened up with people singing along to the classic. The York-based artist has not reinvented the wheel, but who needs to reinvent the wheel when it sounds this darn beautiful. We hope to see him again in Hull after such a solid debut and a warm reception.
