Tell Her This
Hello! One day in the 90s i was sat in a studio Really Hoping that Something (Anything) would happen with my sputtering music career. to cheer ourselves up we’d end each day with a treat which involved listening to music we liked on the Big Speakers. Music sounded amazing on the Big Speakers. (we’d also have a donut).
Mostly we avoided listening to contemporary music because of ferocious jealousy. but one evening the engineer at the studio mentioned a record that had recently been made at that studio by a Scottish band called Del Amitri. So we reluctantly listened and agreed it was ‘Fine’ (the jealousy not allowing any feedback more gracious) and had a ‘good vocal sound’.
then another song came on that was, from the first beautifully voiced chord on the acoustic, simply too lovely to be shrugged at.
It was called ‘Tell Her This’. to this day it remains an inspiring example of the simple/complex, candid/poetic sweet spot that i love and am always aiming for. It also has a good vocal sound.
I happened upon the song again as i was just starting to make some new AquaSongs and it made me very sad and very happy. So i made my own wobbly version!
i hope you enjoy it,
Matt x
