New Thing! Out Now!
Ok here’s the thing. when i was about 14 i had a serious and deep crush on Sting. i had grown up loving The Police and then all of a sudden that guy was making music On His Own but with a Cool Name kinda like A Band.... and, to a music freak teen the music he made seemed impossibly sophisticated and grown up yet thrilling and also had some really good things to say about Russians. And he was kind of a dreamboat.
So i was head over heals. i started to grow my hair. i got Big Trousers because He wore Big Trousers. And worst of all i started writing songs about Issues which led to some truly dreadful lyrics. and that’s not false modesty - we are talking UltraCringePsuedoWisdom that would have made Howard Jones think twice.
The first song Sting released after he destroyed The Police was called “If you love somebody set them free”. This is actually pretty good advice and it’s also a fabulous song. like so much of his music it’s basically a genre of it’s own - nothing else had ever or has ever sounded like it. Quite an achievement.
I eventually came through my Sting crush, got some normal trousers and cut my hair. But i’ve always loved this song. And because i love it i’ve set it free from it’s uniquely Stingish style and made my own wobbly version.
I hope you enjoy it!
